This dataset provides point locations for records in the Gambling Commission's downloadable register of gambling premises in Great Britain. It supports mapping and spatial analysis of premises by operator, licensed activity, and local licensing authority.

The premises-activity categories were standardised. Postcodes in both inputs were converted to uppercase alphanumeric join keys, removing whitespace and punctuation. No inferred postcode corrections were made. The premises register was left-joined to the ONSPD 'pcds', 'east1m', and 'north1m' fields. Point geometries were created from matched grid references in British National Grid (EPSG:27700). All source records were retained.

The dataset contains records retrieved from the public register on 2026-08-11. Source attributes identify the operator account, operator name, premises activity, responsible local authority, and address. Easting, northing, and point geometry have been appended from ONSPD May 2026 using postcode matching.

Quality, Representation and Bias

The Gambling Commission states that it does not issue premises licences and cannot assure the completeness or accuracy of the register; local licensing authorities are the authoritative source for detailed premises-licence information. The download lists premises records reported to the Commission without an end date and may include applications that are pending or premises that are not trading. The register reflects records available when downloaded and may change because the upstream register is updated frequently.

A row represents a record in the Commission download, not necessarily a unique physical site: an address may appear more than once where activities or operator records differ.

Locations are postcode grid-reference points rather than surveyed building entrances or parcel centroids, so they are suitable for area-level analysis and visualisation but should not be treated as exact premises locations. Malformed, incomplete, or otherwise unmatched postcodes are retained without geometry. Apart from the three documented premises-activity corrections, source values are retained as published.

99.91% of records matched ONSPD, the remainder have null coordinates and geometry.
